Pakistan stock exchange is a graveyard for investors and not a reflection of the economy.

The stock market has never been an exact reflection of the economy—nor was it ever meant to be. It is a forecast, not a mirror, driven by three key factors: fundamentals, technicals, and sentiment. It reflects macroeconomic indicators and investor confidence, not the day-to-day realities of the economy.

The real problem isn’t just manipulation; every major industry—banking, cement, steel, real estate, and even tech—is controlled by a few big players, not just in Pakistan but globally. That’s human nature. However, blaming this alone for the lack of public participation ignores a bigger issue: financial illiteracy and misplaced perceptions.

Many in our nation see the PSX as a gambling ring rather than an investment avenue. That’s the fundamental problem. If you know where and how to invest, the stock market has historically outperformed real estate, gold, and even hoarding dollars. But most people don’t understand this because they listen to hearsay instead of learning.

Now, regarding people losing their life savings in the stock market—let’s be honest:
1. Most of them lacked proper knowledge.
2. Many were chasing quick profits instead of long-term gains.
3. They likely invested in high-risk, speculative stocks rather than solid companies.
4. They might have used leverage (borrowed money), amplifying their losses.

This is no different from real estate. If you put money into a CDA or DHA plot, your returns would have been slow but stable and guaranteed. But if you fell for a scammy real estate scheme, you could lose everything. Same principle applies to stocks: knowledge matters.

The PSX is not a casino—it’s an investment avenue. Learn the difference, invest wisely, and watch your wealth grow. This is why I am pushing for financial literacy, and soon, even those who doubt it now will see the truth.
